Hey there and welcome to episode 15 of the Three Lesbians and a Pen podcast. I'm Kimberly Todd and I'm here with my fabulous friends, KC Luck and Jamey Moody. And today we're talking about sex scenes. Before we start, calm yourselves before we start. How was everyone's holiday? And let's not talk about sex.

Let's talk about the holiday first.

What if it was a sexy holiday? Wait a minute.

Well, then please do share because that would be fun for everybody. KC, anything you want to share?

Well, I'll keep this PG for now. I did go to dinner with my girlfriend's family, which was really exciting cause we never had spent a holiday together. So that was kind of cool. You know, you never know how it's going to go.

Yeah

But interestingly enough,

if you don't already know it, I'm a huge NFL football fan and Thanksgiving in my history has been sitting around watching football after you eat a ton of turkey, but their family does not watch football.

So it was like, Oh, okay. So yeah, we relaxed and we colored and we did fun stuff like that, but it was definitely different. And I enjoyed it very much, but it was definitely different.

Spoiler alert the Cowboys won and that doesn't happen very often. So yeah...

Note it down in the records, people.

yeah

But it was nice. So yeah, I had really nice Thanksgiving. How about You'all?

Mine was not sexy at all. I Had a cold for most of the time, but yeah, it's alright I mean, I just been coughing a lot, but the highlight was I went to see Wicked and, it's, awesome.

Yeah, I've been hearing a lot of people like it.

Oh man. Those girls can sing and Ariana Grande is funny in it. She really is. Yeah. Now Cynthia Erivo. Oh my God. She can sing. It's good.

I've heard it's kinda like a sing-along though, and some people in the audience are not super thrilled about that. Did that happen where you were watching it? Do people start singing in the audience?

No, but you know what? I was sitting with my sister. We were talking about something. I was asking her questions because she's seen the musical, I don't know how many times. And I was asking her some kind of question and all of a sudden, somebody hit the back of my seat.

Oh no!

Oh wow.

I mean, it was a really loud sound.

I mean, that was going on and we weren't, they couldn't have heard me over it. It's what I'm getting at. I looked over at her and I said, Do you think , we were talking too loud anyway, it was really kind of funny. So no, I didn't notice anybody singing along, so they could have been, it was loud, but it was good.

It wasn't like the Taylor Swift concert that everyone was singing when they did the movie.

Yeah. I don't remember that, but...

I enjoyed it. How about you, Kimberly?

Yeah, we went to Texas to visit my wife's family and it was so much fun. She has a big family, so there were tons of puppies. I think there were seven dogs, all kinds. Doodles, and the little, dachshunds, and I mean it was crazy, and a chihuahua, I mean it was so much fun, I tell you, people everywhere, dogs everywhere, it was really, really nice, we had a really nice time.

Sounds like fun.

Yeah.

The only thing that stinks is where her family lives in Texas, it takes us to go from New York there 12 hours because you have to switch over from one airport to another. So you could go to Europe and back basically, but

it

And, and it made us sad because I live in Texas, but Texas is a very large place and yeah, and she's five hours away from me, so we couldn't figure out a way to meet up while she was here.

Yeah, not when there's too many. We all had so much family stuff going on.

Right, exactly.

I felt you, I felt you in the state.

Yes, that's it. The energy. Same, I felt you too. Oh, so did we get any reader feedback this week? Texts & emails...

Yeah, I got a couple texts! Woohoo!

Yay,

Uh, one was interesting though. So, someone from Los Angeles, wrote that they want to know if this is even working. Question mark.

It's probably Jules, I think Jules is in Los Angeles.

Okay Jules, yes it works, just fine, we are getting the texts. However, there's no way for me to text you back. So if you're expecting this to be a conversation,

Oh,

Then why do we even have it that's another way They could text us instead of emailing I guess?

Yeah, there's no way I could find where you could write back and say, Hey, how you doing?

Well, that's strange. I don't blame you Jules. That's strange.

So send a text in, it's one way street, and I really appreciate getting it. But yes, we did get it.

And we do reply on the next episode, so you will reply just not instantly,

true.

instantly. Right.

Yes.

a reply

The reply is, yes, it works. Yeah.

Because a lot of people like to use their phone, so if you wanna shoot us something, that way it's still fun. You just won't get an answer till

But if you email you'll get an answer quickly or if you hit us up on any of the socials you will

Fine. Okay. Well, I also received one from Memphis, which I do believe is Cheryl, and she said that constructive criticism is good as long as it's not hurtful. So this is based on our review conversation from last time.

Mm hmm.

I don't believe in being hurtful because it's your livelihood. If you get one just say, fuck em.

Thank you Cheryl.

We sure will, Cheryl.

I love it.

It's kinda how we feel about it. Ha ha

So those are my texts for the week. Yes.

Okay, on emails, we got one from Evie answering the question about writing sex scenes, which we'll discuss here in a little bit. She's also a writer. And she said, the question was about liking writing sex scenes, and she said, hell yeah! she loves writing them. She says by the time she gets to those things, she's so fed up with the tension, that she's built into her characters. And she said, hopefully the readers are sick of it too. And, she said the only thing about, spicy writing is it's very mood dependent for her. So she's stressed or under the weather.

She'd rather skip the scene, for later at a placeholder and wait until she feels better about it. So I thought that was funny. She said, thanks for the amazing show too. So thank you,

Oh, thank you.

Thank you.

And then jewels. She appreciated us answering her questions. The last one she asked us was about character names and she said she was a little surprised that Google was the answer.

Google is your friend.

is always the answer, isn't it.

Yeah. Then she said, which is, it's pretty cute. She said, if you get this before you record the sex podcast in parentheses, not something I expected to ever type. My question is do you always try to make each sex scene different? Not just in the same book, but overall.

We'll discuss that later on in the show. that's all I've got for you Uh huh.

So this is our sex scene episode. So if you don't want to hear it, now's the time to disappear.

Click off. That's right.

Caution, mom, if you're listening, do not listen any further.

Oh, but first I want to ask then because KC usually starts us off, do you have a definition or something? You always start off with a definition

What exactly happens?

What exactly is a sex scene? Well let me draw you a picture on the whiteboard. Oh my gosh I'm sure I can start us off with something without going too in depth.

No, that was just, that just came to mind.

Hahahahaha

Inquiring minds want to know.

Yeah.

Oh man, okay, I will start us off. Sex scenes, you love them or you hate them, they can be used for more than just physical intimacy. So when you think about a sex scene, it's not just about describing how people are getting it on. Boy, I should have came up with some terms or ways to say...

Doing it.

Doing it, having sex.

You're getting laid. Yeah, whatever. So,

doing

uh,

big IT.

I do personally enjoy writing them, not so much the play by play part of it where, you know, this goes there, X goes into Y and A B goes to C, but I do like the physical intimacy part of it.

You know, the chemistry that goes behind a good sex scene. So.

Maybe the emotions that are involved, as well as the physical. So you don't really like the physical part of it, maybe having to describe everything, but you do like describing the emotions that your characters are feeling.

Yes, Dr. Moody, that is correct. Thank you, Dr. Moody. Yeah,

Well that's kind of why you write them, you know, right,

exactly.

And especially if you've, spent time building up your character's chemistry, it's always nice. Then it's fun to write the sex scene because, you know, you're wanting them to have sex by that point. And people like the characters are like kind of enjoying them. So...

Yeah.

Just an FYI, on my work in progress,

we were supposed to record this two days ago and I was at the spot in my work in progress where they were going to have sex for the first time. So I made myself sit down and write that scene on Monday thinking, okay, we'll be able to talk about this and I can explain what was hard and what was easy about this.

And then we didn't record. But anyway, I thought that was kind of funny.

All that hard work for nothing.

Well, I mean, you know, no, it wasn't for nothing. It was good.

That's true. You will use it later. It's gonna be in the book. So yeah, for

Yeah, once I started going, it was great.

Isn't that how they go though? I totally agree. Once you get your groove going, it's actually pretty easy to write

it.

It's just like you're in the sex scene, like you're just, you're like, Ooh, that sounds good.

That's right.

Once they got started, they kind of knew what to do.

Exactly.

okay. Well, that's a great point though, because this was the first time they had had sex.

So that is oftentimes a little different than later on in the book when they're having sex another time, right? Is that different for y'all too?

Do you have them talk in the first sex scene? You know, talk to each other or

No,

no,

Hmm. Do you include a lot of talking there, Kimberly?

not a lot,

this one, there's,

some.

there's a couple of kind of, it's not comedy, but just little comments that are kind of funny. They talk about later on and I don't always have that, but it fit the story. So.

I do have some go to sentences that I include in all my sex scenes. I'm sure people are used to hearing them.

Me too. "Oh god. Oh god."

Just about to say, is it just, "Oh God". Oh yeah.

"I'm coming," is usually another good one that goes in there.

all the moans and groans

"Yep, that's the right place." Yeah.

Are you OK? I often say, are you okay? Like, yeah, I often have that in there. So,

yeah.

Or I'll have them look at each other and nod, you know, like it's okay if we keep going

Yeah,

a form of consent,

A consent, uh,

of consent

section, or, it's not a section, but like a beat. Yeah, exactly.

a moment.

A moment, yeah. Yeah, definitely.

So do y'all have words that you don't like to use

Oh.

Moist! Moist, nooo.

word. I think every writer, the word moist is like, if you have that, that's a shutdown.

Yeah, don't use moist. That's just nasty. I don't know why, but yeah. Her sex, I've seen that, her sex, and I was like, that doesn't sound right.

I use that sometimes when you're just out of descriptions, you know? I mean,

How about the button? Have

yeah. Or the nub

The nub

The nub. Or the mound.

mound. I don't use that.

I have used the nub, but not lately, I'll put it that way.

I don't use those. No. I'm fine with the word clit. I am totally fine with the word clit. I use

I've gotten fine with it. I mean, that's what I use now because it's hard when you think about it how many ways can you describe, you know?

Some people don't like pussy, so I don't use that

No, I occasionally use that

It gets, flagged by Amazon

I actually had someone talk about the vagina in a sex scene. I was like,

I don't

Oh, this is the labia?

Yeah, exactly. I'm serious. I have read someone who used terms like labia and vagina. I was like,

wow.

but I don't

No way.

This is not sex ed people. It's so weird. I put my hand down her labia.

I have heard that. I have read that. I kid you not.

Sorry to any of you that use that. We're not offending you. We're just saying,

for us. Our opinions.

Yeah, I don't know that that would make me hot, but

Yeah. That's the trick though, is I want to make sure that it's something that doesn't take you out of the moment. And it seems like certain terms just really like screech! Stop me.

know.

yeah,

Next page, next page, next page.

Exactly. Wow. We're done there. I'm no longer hot. See you. Bye.

Here's a weird thing. Have you guys ever included masturbation scenes in your books?

Oh, Yeah,

Yes.

Mm hmm.

Because so people don't. I was just curious. I

thought about that.

I hadn't really done, a toy in one either, but I put that in one not too long ago. In the third book of the, Sloan Sisters.

Yes.

I used toys. I like them.

Have y'all used toys? Y'all, y'all used toys? Yeah, what I thought.

Yep. In my book. And. Mm hmm. Yep.

I have a funny story about toys. I sign up for all these emails to, you know, that for different toy things so I can get. ideas of different things. Like, I don't know if there's a clit stimulator or something. Anyways, there was one that came with a bunch of funny shaped like vibrators.

And I thought the email was super funny. So I sent it to one of my friends and I was like, Oh, look at this. And they opened it in front of their mother in law.

Oh, no,

Oops!

Sorry. Not sorry.

Sorry, not sorry. Exactly.

Oh gosh. Anyways...

Toys, definitely do include toys in some of my stories and more in the more recent ones. I didn't do it so much in the beginning, but I am a huge, strap-on person when it comes to my books. So I'm gonna leave it at that.

Yeah, I haven't done that. yet. That is funny though, just over, the holiday, I don't even remember what we were talking about. My, sister was over here and I don't know, something came up and I was like, well, you know, come to think of it, I said, if anything happens to me, you and my niece, I told her, I said, y'all better get over here and empty out my top drawer in my bedroom.

I said, because I said, or y'all can talk about it and laugh. I said, but, but I said, there's several toys in there because I was doing a scene.

Uh-huh

I ordered a couple that I didn't know anything about. And so, yeah, we had a pretty good laugh about that.

I mean, have you ever, been writing a sex scene and you're like, thinking of how the woman's legs are or something and you're like, can they really bend that way? I asked my wife, I was like, lay on the bed for a minute. It's, you know, totally dressed normal. I was like, let me see if you can do this

Can you actually reach that spot? Yeah.

Can your leg really bend that way or? Yeah.

Yeah.

I make sure because I hate when I'm reading a sex scene and I'm like, that doesn't seem right. You know?

Yeah. I try

I don't worry that much about that so much. Yeah, I have a lot of rubbing going on in places where I'm pretty sure if you rub there you'll never get off in a million years, but you know, I have them doing it anyway,

so.

One time I had, um, the girl was, uh, they were obviously a loving couple and they tied the girl's wrists with tea towels, right? Because that's all they had to the bed frame. And I got the funniest thing back from my editor. She's like, Kimberly, she said, have you, did you check into this?

And I was like, no, I just was in the moment. And she said, well, I've tested it. And she's like, it does not work. So you need something else than tea towels.

I was gonna say,

Detail.

Because they were there! It was, it was in the moment.

How did tea towels even come up?,

Yeah. How'd that

come up?

Are tie

Are they having tea?

Tie the wrist to the bed, it did not work.

I can see it now. I'm gonna read Kimberly's book and she's got a doily in there.

Yeah,

I'll n

they're sitting down to have tea and we're gonna go, oh, we know what happens

next.

Well, it's a kitchen towel, you people, not a tea towel,

whatever

you want

to call it.

Hey, let's go back to Jules's question. She asked us, do we try to make each sex scene different? And even from book to book and my answer was yes, I do try to. Well, I mean, there's a lot of ways you can do it because you've got to look at the people's point of view, because you can do it from one person's point of view and then switch over to the other other's point of view.

And, The place can be different that they're having sex. I'm trying to think what else, but yeah, I do. I try to make it different.

Yeah and I include things like the last book that I did, I had never done a scene with feet. Like, it's not a fetish thing, it just, like, she rubbed her feet, and it was a little more intimate there. When I was like, okay, I'll try this, it was something different, so...

mm-Hmm.

Try to be more

creative.

I don't always have mine undressing each other either. Sometimes they'll just both, you know, the

clothes are gone, but then other times, like maybe for this first sex scene in the one that I just did, you know, that can be a kind of a slow reveal when they, um,

When they slowly undress and things like that.

So, sometimes I use that. Sometimes I don't.

Do you guys like when the partner strips for the other one, like slowly,

like that kind of thing?

, I like those. Yeah, those are, I like that kind of thing.

It's hard when you've had 23 books and most of them have sex in them. And so, I mean, God, my billionaire scene, my billionaire series has like 13 sex scenes in just the book. First book. you kind

I know, my first had nine,

know you

burn through a sex scene really fast, you

know?

Mm hmm. Yeah. They're having it all over the place. If there's

13,

you gotta move them around, they've gotta be by a window, an elevator, you gotta think

Yeah. Yeah.

love up against the wall or a door. I love to have them walk in a door and they're both so turned on or whatever, because they've been around other people or something and they can't touch and they close that front door and push the other one up against it and it's on.

Mm

Mm hmm.

Yeah. I think those are

Yes. Definitely. Elevators.

I've done a couple of

What's the strangest place? Yeah. What's the strangest place you've had your couples make sex?

Make sex?

Have sex. Do it.

it

Do it. I'm trying to think of my own books. That just kind of,

Wow. wow, this is

One of mine was in a penthouse where it was just full open windows because it was a millionaire's house, and they did it against the penthouse window where everyone from the city could see in.

see. Uh huh.

that's

sexy. That's

haven't done that. I

I don't know if you lived in New York City, but you can definitely see people if they're against the window. I've seen a lot of people.

Having sex?

Yes.

sex.

Oh, I love it.

In fact, I have a hysterical, one time I was with my, my client and advertising, I won't say the brand. And we had taken them downtown to Chelsea to a photo shoot.

And I'm sitting there and working with the photographer and everything and the clients. And my client walked over to the window and she's like, Oh my God. And across the street was a naked man, I think he was probably gay, and he was sitting there eating a bowl of cereal, watching us, literally straight through the window you could see the full Monty.

And he didn't have on any clothes?

She loved it! It was mourning. She thought it was the most hysterical thing and she could not wait to go back to her state and tell everybody.

How funny.

I was having a heart attack, but

That would have been shocking.

Some people aren't shy. That's for sure. Yeah.

Okay. So how many sex scenes are too many in a book? I think that goes along with, do you ever feel like you've got to stop and put sex in, you know? Yeah. Cause mine, I make sure it's the right time and, you don't want it to sound like, oh, I've got to put this in there because it's time for them to have sex, you know, top deal.

Or they're just having sex cause I needed a place filler or whatever. You know, I try to make it real to the moment to the story.

Yeah. But I've read some where it's a token sex scene, you know, it's, it's how it feels like.

Try very hard not to

let that happen. Yeah.

hmm.

A lot of books that kind of slip it into very, wow, I can't use that term, slip it in, but they actually include

a sex scene.

It's a safe place here.

All our billions of listeners, but so they, include a sex scene at the very end just because they think they need another one.

And I just kind of frown on that. There's no need to do that. It really should fit the story and the moment and the characters.

Right. Like, if there's a honeymoon or something at the end, or a wedding, and you want to put one in for it because it completes the story, that makes sense, but to just throw one in, like you said at the end, for no reason is

Right.

Yeah.

but our our niche does like sex scenes. I think predominantly

they expect the sex scene I expect the sex scene when I read a book.

Oh Yeah.

I would never be fade to black. I have done some fade to black in mine. Okay. But they've already had sex or something like that. Well, like at this scene that I just wrote, they've just had sex and then they're doing a little pillow talk and she rolls her over and they're going to go at it again, but I don't write the second part, but they've already had I'm might fade on those, but as far as fading into black for the whole book, I would never do that. Yeah. I think if you've got these two characters and you're showing chemistry and you're showing this love that's developing between them, I think it's natural to write the sex scene.

I mean, that's how I feel about it.

Do you plan, let's say you know that that point is coming up. Do you plan in your mind what the sex scene like it's going to involve a toy or it's going to involve the window or do you just go with it and whatever comes out...

On this one, I planned where it was going to be because we knew they were going to be together and I did, I had to stop and I had to think about that for a while for a couple of days. When I was leading up to it and I knew it was going to happen, I'm like, where should they have sex the first time though?

You know, that's pretty big deal.

And so I had to, you know, make sure that I got them in the right place. And I think I did. So I hope I did.

You'll find out

yeah,

Yeah, really. It's special for them. And so we're the ones that's making it special or it is to me, you know, special for them. And,

and it's my responsibility to make it

Mm hmm for the reader to yeah, exactly.

We're in the book. Does that fall? I mean, do you like pace it like you have to have it when the first third or the half or...

I don't I'm going to talk about the star series for a second. Cause the first book is done and that book starts out on a one night

stand.

hmm?

Oh, cool.

And the second book I'm probably almost halfway and they're just now having sex. So it just depends on what's going on in the book and how they meet and, how they get together and things like that.

Do y'all plan it for certain? I don't plan their first kiss like that either. It's just, it's just going to happen organically when it gets there.

Yeah, I just put mine wherever it feels like it needs to be. I know there's a formula, like some people only wait till 50 percent of the book before something happens, but I just do it how I feel, what I think the story needs, if it's appropriate,

In my see you next month book, the way I got them together and everything, it took a while for them to even kiss. And I was writing along there and I thought, I can't believe I'm already in chapter so and so and these two have not even kissed yet. Cause I thought, man, maybe this isn't good, but I just stuck with it.

And then when they finally do, and come to terms with it, well, then they're having sex all the time. So I made up for it.

As for me, when it comes to mapping out sex scenes, I do kind of start to get nervous if it's a certain point in the book has passed and I have not had them have sex. If they're going to have sex in that book. I have written a fade to black actually, but I just finished it. It's my super secret project.

Ooh,

I can see why you

That super secret is back and it's fading.

Fade

into

Black.

Well, I won't be

Oh, ow, ow,

Unless you give me a bonus scene.

There's other reasons to read it. It's not about the

sex in this

book.

 I'm kidding. I'm

kidding,

Oh, but when it came to billionaires, I actually had a spreadsheet and I made sure I never went more than two chapters, every other chapter I had to have sex in it of some kind, whether it's a fantasy, sex scene, shower, whatever.

Exactly. It's erotica. So I keep track of where things are happening.

If I read a book and I'm really excited to read it, and then the sex scenes are just, you finally get to it and it's just, I don't know, I like a good sex scene. You know, I want the person to be passionate. I want them ripping their clothes off and you know, having a good time. And if it's just kind of like, I don't know, really, PG. 13. I just am so let down and I'm like, I don't know if I can read the book anymore because that was right. That was your pinnacle. That was it. And I'm like, Oh, no.

Yeah. I've waited like 160 pages and bam, bam, that's it. It

that would be

disappointing.

disappointing.

but there's some people I understand that like that, but I, for me, that's not my cup of

tea. I don't,

Do y'all ever count how many sex scenes you've got in a book? Because I know, I don't remember exactly which one I was writing, but, I was like, dang, man, these people are having sex a lot. I mean, it wasn't token scenes. It naturally evolved and everything, but I thought, man, I got to go through here and see how many sex scenes are in this book.

Yeah.

But some of them just have more than others. It just happens.

Yeah. But can there be too much? That's, that's the next

question.

I don't know. I've never been accused of that. So...

I read a book, actually a science fiction novel, not too long ago, where the sex scene was really intense and graphic and it was in the first chapter, and I was just like, hmm. And then the rest of the book, it was pretty light sex, I mean they did have sex, but the first scene is just

really, like, it's a multi character, you know, it's got a lot going on. So I was just like, this might, it might've been a little front loaded here.

Yeah.

It's an excellent book. But I was really surprised. Yeah.

Let me ask y'all this. Do you do anything to get in the mood to write a sex scene? Oh, come on. It's okay. It's just us here and our two or three other listeners.

Well,

Well,

Cheryl

 and Jules

Just you

and

me, and Evie, and Jules, Cheryl.

us.

I don't do anything to get in the mood, but I do know that I have to be in the mood to write it. Like if I'm stressed or I've got stuff on my mind, then I will say, let me write it when I'm more relaxed and you know, my creativity is flowing.

I very rarely put in a placeholder that says, come back and write this later. Georgia Beer she's posted this more than once.

I saw she posted that this

week. Yeah. She said,

the mood.

I've done it to myself again.

I never do that though. I can't imagine. Imagine having to go back and write like five sex scenes at the end.

Oh

I would kill myself.

God.

myself.

I think TB may do that sometimes too, but

No, no, try to keep it in the moment because that way it seems to flow better with the characters, emotionally,

yeah.

you, you kind of get the

right perspective.

Yeah, how do you have pillow talk if you don't know what they just did.

Yeah, exactly. There's a lot more to it than just putting one in there.

Did you ever have to write a sex scene where you included guy and your sapphic books.

hmm. no.

That'd be a bog ole, no..

I had to do just at the beginning, it was like a very gingerly one. Like obviously, I don't know what to put in there. So I I kind of winged it because the the girl is like seeing a guy at the beginning and they have dinner together. And there's like a little, I don't forget how I did it, but it was very ginger.

Oh, I know which one you're talking about. Yes.

And I was like, what the hell did I do this for, I don't even know what to write.

Because I thought, Because I thought, what is Kimberly doing?

Had no idea. I was like, this is a disaster.

now. Remember that now.

Yeah.

I was like, I have no idea what to call that. I can't even go there.

That's funny. So, you have ARC readers and stuff, Jamey, do they ever give you feedback on your sex scene?

Thank God. No They've never come back and said, what are these

people? You know?

Exactly. How do they really do that? Could you really do that? Yeah.

Yeah. Or if there's something cutesy in a sex scene though, they might comment on that to me or whatever, but no, thank goodness. I tell you what, I get a little bit nervous when, I'm going through edits and if my editors had to correct something in a sex scene.

Oh God, yes.

I kinda stop and say, okay, Is she correcting the language or did I do something wrong? That'll make you a little nervous.

Yeah. Oh my gosh. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. My proofreader is my mom. Right.

Right?

I still can't believe you do that.

I know. So, So there's been a couple of times where she's given, we do our edits on the, on the phone. Right. So she tells me, okay, this is what needs to be fixed on this page. So I'll go fix it.

They live in a small place. And she'd be like, hold on a second, I got to go in the bathroom and tell you this next one. So your dad doesn't hear it's so funny. She'd be like, yeah, this person, they did something with the clit, but you're missing a word here. It's like...

Oh that is greatness, right there. Oh my God.

We really bond.

Did we already, answer that we all like to write sex scenes? Did we say that?

Gone on record that we like sex scenes?

Yes, I like to write sex scenes. I know I was trying to look and see if there's anything that we left out...

Yeah, I love sex. So I'll write it. I'll do it. Doesn't matter.

Yeah, we all have sex.

Yeah,

Let's talk about sex, baby.

Let's talk about you and me. Hey,

Give credit. Got to give credit.

Thank you, Salt-N-Pepa.

I think that was Jamey and KC for your listening enjoyment.

So if you had to guess how many words do you have for the female you know, that you use, because if you have any ones that you can share that I don't know about, I would really like that.

The question of the week?

Boy,

List us all the words that besides vagina, we do not want that one.

Yeah, how many ways can you describe the female?

Hoo ha.

Yeah. The cookie...

Oooo the The tootie. My gosh,

I'm gonna put that in and say this book is dedicated to KC Luck and it'll have the cookie in there.

Oh lord. I

I used the cookie 13 times.

I need to put that in my synonyms. That thing. Let me do that and see what comes up. Y'all just talk amongst yourselves.

What

are you going to use as your starting word?

 I'm using clit.

Oh, synonyms for clit.

That's it. Wait, does the word

slit, bother

you? Oh, God, I don't like that either. Just call it a taco, for God's sake, don't me slit.

A taco..yeah. Okay. So I use slit

use slit, I

day. Um,

used taco. I don't

know.

I get this here, here are your, here are your synonyms for slit. Aperture, cleavage, crevice, fissure, Incision?

incision.

Oh

God, that sounds scary. I do a

So it's not giving me anything for clit. I could have

So,

I had looked that up

I haven't read all your books, but how far into BDSM do you get into with your sex

scene?

Oh, they're calling that slang and vulgar. Clit is short for clitoris. Okay. All right, what now? No, I don't do any BDSM.

Um. You do a little, don't you?

Well,

I do a little...Kimberly does. I do a little tying up, but I, I mean, I've never done anything more than just tie them up, but I've read some that are pretty graphic.

Yeah, Anna Stone is really good at it.

Yeah, Anna Stone is, but they have to be done

really well.

. That's what I mean I think she's good at it because she makes them. Yeah

I read one once where it was a BDSM and she uses clothespins on her nipples. And I was like, I was done reading. Owww. I'm holding my boobs right now...

Yeah. I was like, that's creative,

however, does not make me feel very good.

But then see what she's saying is you need to try it

probably

Oh God.

Before you freak out about yeah, I'm not doing it either, but I'm just saying

You let us know how that goes, Jamey.

Okay. Yeah I'll get back to you next week.

I used, shibari, but that's like, tying up, which I thought was nice because I like art and it's very artistic if you look at it, pictures of it. Shibari.

Yeah.

Yeah. That's pretty cool actually. Yeah.

I think it is. If they can do it, it's a very talented person.

It takes practice.

Okay, These are synonyms for a clit? Didn't say button

I said button.

while ago?

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

We've left this one out muff

Muff the Muff.

The

I've said nether region

Center. We get center a

lot. Everybody's. Mmm.

Sweet spot.

Yeah, that's a good one.

Does anyone, I never use this, but

honey pot.

Honey pot? Oh god. Please. Oh my goodness.

So basically. Four words that you can use and you have to rotate them. It's like, what else are you going to

do?

What are the four words?

Nub, mound...

I've gotten to where, at the beginning, I would try to find all different names, but not anymore. I just go with clit. When they get to the clit, they're getting the clit.

Clit is fine, but that's like the given one. That's the easy one. I'm thinking of like, after you just said clit, what do you do next?

Yeah.

Yeah. It depends on what you're doing to that clit.

Or, you can use flutter!

 That's the difference,

KC, didn't you say you had flutter last time.

Flutter, I had a lot of fluttering. Yes. Oh my God. Yeah. Fluttering. Just to make sure you don't get any typos in there and then you get clot. And that's just not very sexy.

Okay, we gotta end this on a high note,

y'all. That's not it.

 The clit is a beautiful

thing.

It

The flower! The flower!

yeah.

We didn't use flower!

job.

Uh,

job.

KC, you have to use flower

book.

You

go.

I will use flower in my next book. I like that one. You use cookie,

Yeah.

I'll use flower. We'll will be good.

Okay.

Cookie. Sex and making love are beautiful things

Oh, making love. Making love. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Do you use the terms making love in your sex scenes?

No.

Sometimes. It depends on where they are in that point of their relationship.

Hmm.

I have noticed a lot of books lately, they use the word fuck a lot.

Hmm.

Do y'all use that? I don't use that.

It is my favorite cuss word. I will say that, but I

abrasive.

it, uh, In a sex scene, to be honest with you. I will call them having sex or something like that. I don't say, you know, fuck me or whatever. But I will maybe say making love later. I haven't in a while, but I might call it that, you know, and I may have them talking about it and just say, It feels like more than

sex.

And do you, bring in the senses? Because I think that's important. Some people don't do that. And I think it's really important to use the senses.

Right. I like that the most about a sex scene is when they talk about all the different sensory parts of it. And I just, like I said, I don't dislike the technical. You know, this goes there. I like to have the whole package. So yeah,

 I do that too.

Mm hmm.

So that's a higher note. Anything else?

Have you ever written a sex scene...

Breathy moans.

Yeah. Gasping. Yes. Moaning.

Growl. Yep.

I have my butches growl a lot.

 Growl is a

good one.

It was that good, she was growling.

As long as it's not slobber ...

we're ok.

People are going to love this episode. Hope we're helping you.

Yeah, I wonder how much you're gonna, edit out of this baby...

I don't think very much because I find it very humorous.

I think we can wrap it up by saying we love to write sex scenes. We think they are a beautiful part of a romance...

And don't fade to black we're gonna, We're going to keep doing

it.

Oh, but there is a reason to favor black sometimes because the book I just finished I don't give too much away because I promised other people that we were going to release at the same time. But okay, I'm just going to tell you from the 40 people that listen, it is a mystery story. It's not necessarily a romance focused thing.

Yeah, so I don't want to detract from the mystery part of it by having them have them hot and heavy sex scene and also my characters are 65 and 70.

That's a perfect example then. Yeah, for sure.

That's a great question though. I've written, where my people are fifties and one of them was sixties. And I always hesitate just a little bit on writing sex for those because Harper Bliss did one with, older characters like that. And I thought the book was great and it got great reviews, but there was this one review that said, I don't want to read about 60 year olds having sex. And I thought, huh, well, I'm a 60 year old and I have

sex. You know. And so anyway, I just, I've thought about that. I haven't done it. My characters are forties and fifties right now in this series and probably won't get any older, but I thought about that. Would y'all ever take that on writing, you know, well, you just did 65 and 70, but would you do that in a romance?

I don't know, that's a tough one. Because, definitely

in the fifties. Definitely in the fifties. fifty six, still having sex, I'm fifty six.

I don't think I could do it right now.

Maybe you don't have many sex scenes. If you do that,

Yeah,

going to have to think on that though and figure out a way to,

Yeah.

I'm

there's

a market for it.

I just remembered that review saying that, and I thought, Hmm, may, so maybe I won't let mine be any older than 60.

Yeah. That's kind of a shame though, because you know, I intend to have a lot of sex when

I'm 60.

People are having sex.

So.

Well, I think that's it for sex scenes, everybody. And now for next week's topic, we're going to be talking about novellas versus full length books or standalones versus a series and which is better. And we might also talk a little bit about anthologies. And then we have our question of the week, KC...

Okay. So if that's our topic, then let's get some questions around what you prefer to read. Are you one of those people that like a novella because you can read it on the subway on the way to work or do you hate a novella because it's too short? So let us know what you like to read and also what those who are authors who are listening, what do you like to write?

Can you really limit yourself at a certain number of words or do you like to have the epic? So let us know. Text me and I won't text you back, but text me your answer.

Email me. I'll email back.

Or there's Instagram if you feel the need.

Poor Kimberly...

Kimberly will reply to you.

Poor me. Poor Kimberly, Instagram doesn't get any love. Hey everybody, thanks for having sex with us tonight...

I need a cigarette.

I'm going to drink now. I don't know about you people.

I drank before hand to get ready.

good job.

I guess after all of this sexy talk, maybe I'll have to go, uh, open that drawer by my bedside table.

Well my girlfriend is here so..., and if you want to

hear what happens, if you want to hear the conclusion of that, we'll talk about it next week, possibly. But that's it for this week.

Thank you for listening and, uh,

have a good one.
